Here is our 2012 CSA FORM! Download it, fill it out and send it in and you will be all set. I will let you know by email as soon as I receive it.

Our CSA is $350 for a bag of Certified Organic vegetables each week for 23 weeks. You can pick up your share at the Allen Street Farmer’s Market on Wednesday afternoons, or at the farm on Wednesday or Friday afternoons. If you pick up at the farm you can also help yourself to some herbs from our herb garden or some seasonal U-Pick veggies.

Shares are meant to feed a small family or two avid vegetable eaters. Last year we averaged 6 lbs. of vegetables a week, as well as 6 different items each week- however- remember- this varies considerably throughout the season.

If you haven’t been a member of a CSA before, it is important to remember that receiving fresh veggies each week will require an open mind, and a considerable amount of time & enthusiasm to cook them to fully appreciate the share. Also, we are not a fruit farm; although we hope to offer occasional fruit, most of what you will receive will be vegetables (see “What’s in a share?”). All of that being said, we believe we will be able to provide you with a bounty of delicious vegetables each week that will be worth more than $350.

I just want to say thank you so much to everyone that supported us in 2011. It was my first season as the new farm manager, and I really appreciated the support from our CSA members, folks that visited us at the market, and everyone that made Giving Tree such a pleasant place to work every day.

I am really looking forward to the 2012 season, and I hope you are, too! If you would like to receive information about our 2012 CSA, please email me at cbisgivingtreefarm at gmail.com. We will be slightly increasing the size of the CSA, so there will definitely be available shares. I will be posting soon about our plans for the season, including all of the markets where you will find us next year. Busy Busy Busy!

Too busy to blog, in fact! We have been transplanting, harvesting, weeding, hunting hornworms, spreading compost, irrigating, and finally, eating and enjoying the fruits of our labor! It has been a great season so far, and the tomotoes and peppers are only just getting started. Our Summer CSA is about halfway through, and I hope everyone is enjoying eating seasonally as much as we are. I will post updates on our short Fall CSA, which will likely run for 4 weeks until a large final Thanksgiving harvest.

We are still selling at the Allen St. Farmer’s market, which seems to get better every week I am there. We are also at the NorthWest Initiative’s Farmer’s Market on Monday evenings 4-7pm, which is on Saginaw, in Shanora’s parking lot, on the west side of Lansing.

And finally, I am happy to announce that we have a roadside farmstand open 2-4PM Tuesday-Friday! Please stop by and do some grocery shopping! We will have tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, and other seasonal, fresh, certified organic vegetables for sale.

Hi there! We are getting excited about the upcoming season here at CBIs Giving Tree Farm– our first seeds will be planted this week!

Here is some information about our CSA:

This year we will keep the price of our shares the same: $300 for 23 weeks of fresh, certified organic vegetables. We don’t offer “half shares”, but many members have shared shares on their own in the past, and it can work well if you think you may receive too many vegetables. Our shares are meant to feed two people each week; larger families, or especially avid vegetable-eaters may want to consider two shares. Our CSA will run May 25th- October 26th. The varieties will vary as the season progresses, and you can expect staples as well as new and different vegetables– and fresh herbs, too.

We have three pick-up times and locations:

CBI’s Giving Tree Farm

Friday After 3P.M. (or Saturday morning)

Allen St. Farmer’s Market

Wednesday 2 P.M – 6:30 P.M.

We will also offer flower shares, as we did last year, for $100 for a 14 week season (July-October). The flower shares will include 12-18 stems, from a wide variety of flowers throughout the season.

Lastly, I am also going to try a Spring share this year. We will offer a 6 week share for $40, from April 13^th through May 18^th. Spring shares will include a variety of leafy, green, cool-weather crops such as lettuce, arugula, chard, or spinach, as well as carrots, beets, peas, and radishes. Pick-up for Spring shares will only be available at the farm on Friday evening or Saturday morning. Due to limited production, I am limiting the number of shares to a small group, so sign up soon to reserve your spot.

Lastly, for the next couple weeks we will still have some winter greens available for pick up at the farm: chard, kale, collards, and broccoli raab are just $3/lb. Email me or call my cell phone (217-637-3733) by Wednesday or Friday at 11 AM and we will include your order in our harvest, which will be available after 3PM the same day.

2011 is almost here!

We will be accepting 2011 CSA members in just a couple weeks! The season will run from May 25th – October 26th. We are also considering having a small spring CSA, offering lettuce, arugula,kale, chard – all the green leafy cool weather crops, as well as beets, carrots and herbs.
